Pregnancy

pregnancy - obgyn Columbus gaIf you’re a first time mom or you need a refresher course on what to expect during a typical pregnancy, Dr. Umana, your Columbus obstetrician, is here to help at Central Obstetrics and Gynecology Columbus GA.

During the first visit with our doctor you will be asked several questions about your medical history. Your Columbus obstetrician will usually conduct a pap smear and may request other lab tests. If you know when your last menstrual period was, our doctor will give you an estimated due date. You will most likely be scheduled to visit our doctor once a month during your first trimester.

Around 15 weeks you will probably be asked if you would like to have a blood test (Quad screening) done at our Columbus gynecology office to screen for neural tube defects or Down Syndrome.

An ultrasound will be given when you are around 18-24 weeks to check for any anatomic abnormalities. Our doctor may be able to determine your baby’s gender during this ultrasound. You will most likely continue to have appointments at your Columbus gynecologist and obstetrician scheduled once a month during your second trimester.

You will start seeing your doctor every two weeks once you are 28 weeks pregnant. Around 36 weeks you will have weekly visits. At this time your doctor may start to check your cervix to see if you are dilating or if your cervix is thinning out. Follow your doctor’s protocol on when to proceed to the hospital if you think you’re in labor.

If you are pregnant, you should consult with your Columbus gynecologist and obstetrician to discuss your care during your pregnancy.  Just call Columbus Central Obstetrics and Gynecology today at (706) 507-6306 to schedule an appointment or to speak with a member of our experienced and caring staff.
