According to Columbus gynecologist Dr. Otto Umana, new research shows that crunching on apples can intensify sexual pleasure, by stimulating the blood flow to the vagina as is the case with chocolate and red wine.
A study that was recently published in the Archives of Gynecology and Obstetrics, studied the sex lives of over 700 Italian women and discovered that those who consumed one and two apples per day had enhanced sex lives.
The women – who were between the ages of 18 and 43 – were separated into two sections; one group who never ate apples and another that ate between one and two apples a day.
Researchers asked the women – with no other sexual problems – to complete a Female Sexual Function Index questionnaire that measures sexual function, sexual frequency, orgasm, lubrication and overall satisfaction with sex.
According to your Columbus gynecologist, the results revealed that the daily consumption of apple(s) is associated with higher FSFI scores in female patients who were sexually active, and that it increased their lubrication and overall sexual experience.
One reason for this enhanced sex life that researchers identified was that apples contain polyphenols and antioxidants – like red wine and chocolate – which can stimulate blood flow to the genitalia and vagina, thereby boosting arousal.
Apples are also high in phloridzin, which is anatomically comparable to the female sex hormone estradiol, which plays a huge part in vaginal lubrication and sexuality in women.
So there we go ladies, an apple a day won’t just keep your Columbus gynecologist away after all…it will actually improve your sex life!
